 Ukrainian Seniors' Centre is a community initiated 35-unit seniors apartment complex providing supportive housing and culturally sensitive programming.
A 7-person continuum-of-care facility for frail elderly is included in the Centre.

 

POSITION AVAILABLE:  RECEPTIONIST, ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR
30 hours per week

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

The position is directly accountable for general reception duties, maintaining a small boutique, encouraging the seniors’ and membership to develop to their full potential, and promotion of the Centre’s facilities and services.

  • experience in program development and promotion
  • ability to present

LANGUAGES: Bilingual (Ukrainian and English).

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES *shall include but not be limited to

Reception Responsibilities

  1. Welcoming the public to the Centre and answering telephones.
  2. Opening and date stamping mail as requested.
  3. Answering client, member, boutique and library enquiries.
  4. Processing memberships, parking and Boutique purchases.
  5. Maintaining office equipment in working condition. Ie: photocopier, fax, printers, computers.
  6. Requisitioning of office supplies when requested.
  7. Promoting Centre programs, services and facilities (Diners’ Club, Supportive Housing, Barvinok, Complex) to membership and general public.
  8. Handling relief and limited vacation coverage(ie: Bingo caller, Diners’ Club).
  9. Providing support to volunteers and students on placement.
  10. Handling petty-cash and completing deposits as required.
  11. Typing documents when required.
  12. Maintaining accurate filing and record systems.
  13. Observing confidentiality of client records and financial information.
  14. Distributing information relating to Centre Rentals.
  15. Providing support to the Executive Director and Board as required.

Boutique Responsibilities

  1. Ensuring atmosphere is welcoming to the customers.
  2. Assisting customer in showing of items, instructions and addressing any enquiries.
  3. Researching items for sale and handling ordering.
  4. Monitoring budget in the ordering of supplies.
  5. Completing sales receipts and handling data entry.
  6. Handling cash deposits.
  7. Maintaining an inventory of items available.

Social/Recreational Responsibilities

  1. Working closely with the Cultural Committee chair to promote Ukrainian culture.
  2. Initiating non-cultural and social events for residents and members: i.e. guest speakers, workshops, reading circles, games, and video afternoons.
  3. Assisting in the production of the monthly newsletter/calendar.
  4. Assisting in the updating of the website.
  5. Introducing new materials available to residents, membership and community.
  6. Providing support to staff in regards to cultural practices and special events.
  7. Responsible for other duties from time to time as directed by the Executive Director ie: Diners’ Club Assistant, Volunteer Telephone Captain and Special Events Assistant.

COMMITMENT

Salary:  Negotiable.
