2010 - Zorya Dancers

In 1997, 14 dedicated dancers came together to form the Zorya Ukrainian Dance Ensemble. Today, Zorya provides instruction in traditional Ukrainian dance to 110 students who range in age from 4 years to adults. It is devoted to nurturing Ukrainian heritage through dance, language and traditional customs.
Instruction provided by dedicated and creative teachers has allowed Zorya to continue to share Ukrainian culture through various performances and community workshops throughout Thunder Bay and the surrounding area. Zorya has traveled to many destinations in Canada and the United States such as: Sioux Lookout, ON; Fort Frances ON; Vancouver, BC; Victoria, BC; Winnipeg, MB; Dryden, ON; Dallas, TX; and Galveston, TX to showcase their Ukrainian heritage. During performances and workshops, Zorya's dancers are able to display their wide range of dance repertoire that includes both classical and character dances from over nine different regions of Ukraine.
Zorya is unique in its directive structure. Through an elected body of Directors, it strives to allow all members equal say in the operation of the Association. In this way, new and innovative opportunities continually arise for fresh creativity and unique direction for the group.
Last year, the Zorya Ukrainian Dancers were selected to receive a "Citizens of Exceptional Achievement Award". Receiving this award is a tribute to the teachers, dancers, executive and parents who generously give of their time and talents, to ensure Zorya's successes.
This year, Zorya celebrated its 12th Annual Concert. Zorya has truly become a dynamic, artistic and cultural force in Thunder Bay.
The Zorya Dancers are very pleased to be attending the Garlic Festival. Thirteen Zorya Dancers will be performing in Sudbury this year. They welcome everyone to come and enjoy a wonderful afternoon of music, folklore, and dance.
